In Memory Of
Mr. John Chic Applegate
Message by Sarah Rockwell - September 7, 2009
Jewel,
I remember the day you called me and told me that your beloved john had passed. As your friend I knew that once again your heart had been broken and words could not describe the pain within I felt from your heart and confusion of why. Why is it so easy for someone so special and heart warming who provided true meaning to come into your life and just as easy to leave? Why is it fair for someone that spent most of their dear life for others and not their own, to part so soon when they have so many more dreams to accomplish and so many more memories they want to share. The truth is that there is no doubt in my mind and soul that john was a true blessing. A blessing to you for which you deserved unconditionally and to others throughout his purpose and ambitions in life. What we all know and understand is that john played a special part of everyone's life including yourself. There are so few people in life that have all the qualities of no conceited, honesty, warm hearted, living more for others than one's self like John.
I wish I could have had more opportunity to get to John know more and hear more of his pleasurable stories but the few I heard i learned that he most definitely lived his life to its fullest and placed an impact on many others lives including you Jewel. He was not just your best friend but a true companion to you who gave and shared all the love that he could give as he gave to others also and one day you will meet and once again continue that love.

John had many friends and they were all dear to his heart.
I do not think he ever met a stranger.

I found this song on Dad's PC and am surprised I'd never heard it before since it's Jimmy Buffett. The words really hit home. I miss him so.
The Captain and the Kid
By: Jimmy Buffett
1970
I never used to miss the chance to climb up on his knee
And listen to the many tales of life upon the sea
We'd go sailing back on Barkentines we'd talk of things he did
Tomorrow just a day away for the Captain and the kid
His world had gone from sailing ships to raking mom's backyard
He never could adjust to land although he tried so hard
We both were growing older then and wiser with the years
That's when I came to understand the course his heart still steers
He died about a month ago while winter filled the air
And though I cried I was so proud to love a man so rare
He's somewhere on the ocean now that's where he oughta be
With one hand on the starboard rail he's wavin' back at me
I never used to miss the chance to climb up on his knee
And listen to the many tales of life upon the sea
We'd go sailing back on Barkentines talk of things he did
The world was just a day away for the Captain and the kid
For the Captain and this kid
